Hello,
Just finished my first Flight arrows. They are made using the Veritas tool for making dovels, and are made about 2 inch longer than my normal arrows, ground down to about 1/32 smaller diameter than normal. The wood is very stiff Pine, with Silver foil (I bought some foil normally used for lining cabinets for a couple of dollars for a role with 5 meters in), and yellow stain.
The feathers are about 5 centimeter long (just shy of 2 inches), and are made using my new home made feather burner
. The arrows weigh just shy of 36 grams each, including the business end. I hope, that the arrows won’t break the first time I fire them tomorrow!
I had to come up with an idea for securing the arrows while the finish were applied (Polyurethane from a spray can). That ended up being two identical squares of Polystyrene (The white stuff, that protects all electronic appliances when they are in their boxes). I just made six holes side by side, and I had a tool for spray-painting six arrows simultaneosly. At the same time they protected the parts of the arrows that I did not want to have any finish applied to.
I normally mess up at least one arrow every time I make a new set of arrows, so I started out making four arrows in order to have a set of three matching arrows. But this time everything went OK, so I actually ended up with four arrows *S*
…
Any ideas for making them even better than I think that they are?
/Kenneth
